Opportunities Abound!

Smarty Nation, a blog divided cannot stand, and a blog run by three over-worked and under-paid pseudo intellectuals cannot produce itself. We strive to provide you with content and would like to provide a venue for you to contribute content. This gains you some exposure and also lightens our load. It’s difficult to consistently produce maddeningly brilliant original work.

Guest Posting – Like the blog? Find yourself thinking “I’m smart, these guys like smart things, I think I might be able to write something they would appreciate”? Good. We know you are smart (you found us, right?). Put that intellect into words and gain a small amount of internet notoriety!  Here’s how:
  1. Come up with an original post idea about one of our core areas: science, the arts/entertainment, current events/politics, or sports -- Your submission can take the form of analysis or commentary
  2. Submit your idea to our email account for initial review - (stuffsmartppllike[at]gmail{dot}com)
  3. If we like your idea, we will send you an approval. Congrats, you have passed the first hurdle.
  4. Write your post (keep it between 750-1,500 words).
  5. Submit your post to us via our email account (stuffsmartppllike[at]gmail{dot}com) in .txt form or .rtf
  6. All submissions at this point are peer-reviewed (i.e., all three editors authors will review the submission, provide notes, and render a decision). Unlike the Senate, we require a two-thirds majority for your work to be accepted. You will be notified of the decision via email.
  7. Make your revisions (if requested) and resubmit. Include images (copyright free; 1-2 max) if desired. Also include a brief biographical sketch, picture, and web site or other internet locale you want us to plug.
  8. We will format the article, do minor copy editing, and post on the blog
  9. Bam! Instant internet fame.

Music – You might have noticed that the podcast intro music sounds like it was composed in midi by a fourth grader circa 1998. That is because we cannot afford to pay for “fancy pants” music to play on the podcast. We welcome any and all submissions for royalty free (read: you can’t sue us) music to use on the podcast. Chances are we won’t really be into your work (we’re not into most of this new age stuff), but if we like it and we think it would be a good fit for the podcast we would be more than happy to include it and plug your work “on the air,” just don’t expect this to be lucrative transaction. While we can’t guarantee that it will mean success for you, we can certainly guarantee that it will do next to nothing for us.

Art – We’re toying with the idea of a virtual gallery of fan art. Any style will do, we pretty much like it all. It must be in a digital format and be royalty free. We have no way of protecting it from being ripped off by strange lurkers from other countries, so don’t be surprised if it finds its way to the dark corners of the internet. We can guarantee a space for your work, an attribution/link to your own page, and (possibly) a special gift from the three of us.

We reserve the right to refuse any and all submissions for any category without providing a reason (sometimes we don’t have one).
