Recall Signatures Turned In

Well, today was the day that recall organizers had to turn in their signatures in the recall of Scott Walker. They originally planned to turn in around 720,000 to make sure they got the required 540,000ish to force the recall election. They turned in approximately 1 million today.

You don't have to be from Wisconsin to appreciate the magnitude of this event considering that only twice in American history have elected governors been defeated in recall elections. From this point the GAB will review the validity of all of the signatures, a process that will likely take several months. That means that we probably won't see the election take place until around June.

Oh, and where is Walker this fine day? Oh, over on the East Coast at a $2500 a plate fundraiser.

Wisconsin Recall Update

Just an update on the Wisconsin Recall election. A DailyKos report suggests that organizers will drop off nearly 1.5 million signatures on the due date of Jan 17th. Ummm, that's a lot. about 540,000 were needed to force the recall election. Organizers wanted about 700,000 to account for invalid signatures. If the 1.5 million is an accurate count, and if even 1 million of those are legit, this sends a loud message to the capitol in Madison.

Anyone have a prediction of signatures actually turned in to legit signatures? I'm going with 1.3 million submitted, approximately 1.1 million valid. What say you readers?

Recall Recall Redux

Even if you're not from Wisconsin you may want to pay attention to its politics. As some of you may recall from my earlier post, Wisconsin governor and college dropout Scott Walker is being threatened with a recall drive. Considering that this has only been successful twice in US history, you may shortly be witness to #3. The opposition has 60 days from the start of their drive to collect 540,000 signatures to force a recall election. A recent post on dailykos says they have collected roughly 300,000 signatures in just 12 days. For those of you like Governor Walker who are probably having trouble with the math, that's over 50% of the signatures needed, with 48 days left to collect. Walker claims he is not letting the recall campaign get in the way of his campaign promise to create at least 250,000 jobs in Wisconsin during his tenure. Considering recent job numbers out of the state I think he may have misspoke and instead meant to say that he wanted to create 250,000 more jobless in the state.
